My file is full of rejection slips
Of writings I’ve submitted
To publishers who answer back,
“This piece is just not fitted
For our publication goals.
But thank you.  Try again.”
So, I go back to my computer
Or take up a pencil or pen!
And lo! Words magically appear
In sentences or rhyme.
Coming from I know not where,
For all I invest is time!
And, as I write, I wonder:
‘Will this, too, fail the test
And never see itself in print;
A failure, not success?’
No, I’ll just re-define success,
Being printed is but its half.
The more important part is that
My words give friends a laugh!
