THE "BIG Z" DAY

I face a major challenge
In each decade I survive.
There comes a day of reckoning
To thank God I’m still alive.

It’s a time for contemplation
Of my place along life’s way:
Have I accomplished anything?
Or just wasted every day?

Who am I now? How have I changed?
Have I kept my sense of humor?
Or do the years weigh me down
And turn me into a gloomer?

Have I been faithful to who I am,
Or let others call the shots?
Have I bloomed where I’ve been planted
Or yearned for other spots?

What lies ahead in the coming years?
Of course I cannot know,
But each "big Z" day gives me hope
To keep on keepin’ on, though slow!

"What is a "big Z" day," you ask.
"That time of joy and woe?"
It is my birthday each tenth year
That ends with number zero!
