LIQUID MAGIC
WaterAerobics is good exercise, especially for aged
muscles and overused joints like mine. In the swimming pool, the recorded
voice of some "sweet young thing" guides us through a series of
gentle exercise moves.
For forty-five minutes, the resistance of the water
heightens the effectiveness of our stretching, twisting, hopping, jumping
and kicking! And it’s magic! In less that an hour’s time, our
encouraging exercise guide transforms us into mermaids, storks,
ballerinas, frogs, cheerleaders and bicyclists!
The magical powers of that invisible prestidigitator,
however, do have limitations. For four years I have listened to her
repeated claims that "this [exercise] is good for your
waist/hips/tummy," and have rigorously obeyed her instructions. Even
so, in all that time, she has not yet been able to restore to me a tiny
waist, slim hips or a flat tummy! Her brand of magic seems unable to bring
back my twenty-year old figure!
