THE FLUTTER BY
Outside the door of our winter home
Texas lantana blooms.
Its yellow, orange, pink and purple faces
smile up at the sun,
waving in the wind
and glistening in the rain.
But, in October,
those blossoms glitter and dance
under the gentle kisses
of dozens of butterflies.
Winged wonders,
suddenly descend upon our garden
to play,
sip nectar,
and delight all passers-by.
For a minute – or a month – they sparkle
black and orange,
blue and green,
tan and gray,
yellow and white,
and then they’re gone.
Butterflies don’t stay long.
They flutter by!
