HOUSE ARREST?
Is this God’s idea of house arrest?
Sending weather as hot as ... Well,
The thermometer’s stuck above 90,
Hot topic – sad story to tell.
Summer’s heat lingering into autumn.
TV weathermen promise still more.
The sun burns down intensely,
Humidity and temperatures soar.
My thick "Northern blood" can’t take it!
I collapse at about 90 degrees.
High humidity wipes me out.
Not in prayer do I fall to my knees!
So, from mid-morning ’til evening,
I can’t go out, as a rule.
I stay inside where the sun can’t shine
And the air’s artificially cool.
The outside looks lovely and peaceful,
A breeze sways palms ’neath the sun.
But if I’d go out at mid-day
I’d have melt-down – and that’s no fun.
So, confined to the house I have lots of time
To think, and reflect on the heat.
What if cool never comes this winter?
’T would be worse than to take a hot-seat!
Perhaps this confinement is God’s preview
Of what my future might be
If I don’t confess of my many sins.
I could roast for eternity!
Dear Lord, I repent of sins hidden or known,
Of the past, of today, not yet done!
Please spare me from spending forever
In heat like the south Texas sun!
