A WARNING
TO KANSAS
Some folks climb peaks of mountains.
Some explore beneath the sea,
But to spend a spring in Kansas
Is excitement enough for me!
The wind, she blows forever and ever.
Black clouds race across the sky.
The sun takes shelter from the coming storm.
If I’d been as wise, so would I!
The rains begin, so gently at first.
Then a watery, noisy deluge!
Suddenly, gunshots on the roof above,
The hailstones hit! They were huge!
We anxiously scanned the western sky
For a hint of a funnel-shaped cloud.
If we saw a twister, to shelter we’d go
For protection. We’d not be too proud!
Mother Nature then moved her tantrum east.
We were safe – and in awe of her might!
Her twister winds came and took three lives
Out east, later on that same night.
Shame on you, Kansas! You’ve greeted us thrice
In this rude, damp and impolite style.
You’ve drowned out our zest for adventure,
So, we’ll spend Spring elsewhere for awhile!
