PLAGUE
A deadly plague is threatening us all. A frightening
pestilence is stalking the streets of our nation. It is not yet a
worldwide pandemic but it threatens our relationships with our national
neighbors. This home-grown plague threatens us more seriously than
international terrorism.
It’s a national health care emergency but cannot be
controlled as easily as a recall of contaminated peanut butter. According a New York Times report of about a year ago, each day
eighty-one Americans die of this vicious killer. More than fourteen of
every 100,000 Americans will die of this plague, nearly 30,700 every year!
But there is no hope for the development of a vaccine to protect us.
Instead, national news media report on this continuing
scourge as if it were a normal and expected threat to our existence. Every
day, dealers in this deadly disease enrich themselves legally by hiding
behind the Bill of Rights of the U.S. Constitution. The National Rifle
Association spends millions of dollars whipping up national fear so as to
continue the spread of this pestilence.
When will we label gun violence in the U.S. the plague
that it is? It can’t be soon enough for students at West Nickel Mines
Amish School, Columbine High School, Virginia Tech University, and for
hundreds of thousands of other victims of gun violence!
