OKLAHOMA SUNSET
Bright orange-red orb
lighting up the horizon
and reflecting across the low, empty grassland.
If I squint my eyes almost shut,
I see enormous herds of buffalo,
and mustangs, wild as the prairie;
Handsome brown-skinned people,
and land-hungry "sooners";
the loneliness and fear,
conflicts and hardships;
faith-healings and copy-cat religion;
the smoke of a hate bomb,
the cries of innocents murdered,
All fading into that sunset.
What will tomorrow’s sunrise reveal?
