CYPRESS SECRETS

Silent, slimy cypress swamp, what secrets do you hide
-behind your troll-shaped tree trunks?
-within your swinging strands of Spanish moss?
-among your knobby knees half hidden in your muck?

The bullfrogs know,
and the waterfowl,
and, of course, the fish.
But they’re not telling!

Dark, earthy depths, do you hide the mysteries of
-the strength of silence?
-the beauty of ugliness?
-the power of humility?
-the peace of constant reflection of heaven?
