THE GIRL IN THE GPS
There’s a new black box on our dashboard.
It’s a GPS, I am told.
That’s short for "Global Positioning System."
The girl inside is quite bold!
That’s right! There’s a girl who lives in that box.
A lady, I know she is not,
For she rarely says "Please";
never "Thanks" or "Hello,"
Nor "Excuse me, I forgot!"
She has only one standard greeting,
When we start out on a trip:
"Please travel the highlighted
route," she
intones.
Woe to us if a turn we skip!
"Continue three miles ahead on 10th
Street."
But if we go our own way and don’t
follow
The route that she’s laid out,
Her only response is "Re-calculating,"
But her tone of voice is pure pout!
Soon she’s back with brand new
commands,
"Re-calculating,"
each time we roam.
Sometimes, just to test her, we wander about
‘till she "recalculates"
us back home!
She’s so pushy, persistent and sure of herself.
Such a girl deserves a name.
Friends call theirs "Wanda;" another is "Jill."
Remember "Lola" of movie fame?
But the girls’ initials are GPS, so
A name for our electronic whiz?
"Gabriela Patricia le Savaunt!"
or "Gabby Patty the Savvy" it is!
