TOM TURKEY’S THANKSGIVING THOUGHTS As Thanksgiving Day approaches, I confess to great confusion. I, too, feel very thankful. But it’s my meat that you’re usin’ To feast upon, and celebrate with gravy, spuds and dressing. You like me dead and roasted, and I find that quite depressing. I’m thankful, too, for gracious gifts of life and health and corn. But I’ve feared Thanksgiving platters ever since I was born. Like you, I admire the Pilgrims, that brave and hardy flock, Who left their homes for unknown lands near fabled Plymouth Rock. They survived a winter, built a town, and then declared a day To give thanks to God for gracious care and guidance on their way. They invited Indian neighbors, from babes to octogenarians. Turkeydom’s history wouldn’t be so grim if they’d all been vegetarians! mshr 11/01/2007 |
