CONNECTED

To stand on the shore of any sea
is to stand on the shore of all seas.
Flowing water,
breaking waves,
currents and tides,
a continuous stream
from the Arctic Ocean to
the Indian Ocean,
from the Caribbean to
the Mediterranean.
No borders divide the deep;
no checkpoints curtail the currents
that lap the shores of every land.
The cold North Sea and
the warm South China Sea
are one, though far apart.
Stormy Superior and
quiet Victoria
are kin, though diverse.
The Mississippi and
the Nile
are bound together
by a shared destination.

Oh, what wisdom nations could learn
from the waters of the world!
