CELESTIAL INVESTMENTS

Do you know where our "riches in heaven"* are stored

by our wise and generous God?

They’re hidden in plain view

for those whose eyes will see:

the gold is in the setting sun,

the rubies in cardinal’s wings,

emeralds shine from the tall pine trees,

sapphires gleam from the restless sea.

The diamonds sparkle in waterfalls,

Amethysts bloom in wayside flowers,

Silver glitters in winter’s first snow,

Turquoise shimmers from the autumn sky.

Pearls glow in the smile of a friend,

Furs clothe beasts of forest and field,

And God’s treasure of love

– incarnate in Christ –

reaps rewards from the entire Creation!

Pity the poor rich whose only wealth is hoarded away in banks,

where falling interest corrupts

and inflation breaks in and steals!*
