FLAVORS OF FRIENDSHIP
Friends are the spice on the buffet of life,
As we stroll down the table of years.
Some, like aged cheese, are strong and last
Thru seasons of laughter and tears.
Others, like salt, are constantly there,
Quietly flavoring our days.
We pay little heed – until they are gone –
Then we miss their gentle ways.
Garlic friends add excitement and risk
To our boring bread each day.
Laughter and humor are our salsa friends’ gifts.
With them, we get carried away!
Some friends, like pepper, bite us back with doubts
And questions we can’t understand.
But there are sage, rosemary and thyme-like friends
Who don’t say much. They just pat our hand.
Our lemon juice friends see the world as sour,
Threatening, dark and drear.
So we share our sweetness with them and hope
It will lend them a little cheer.
We all need a few paprika friends
Who add beauty to all they touch.
And cinnamon, chocolate and ginger friends
Who calm us when we’re stressed too much!
So, as we stroll thru the buffet of life
Tasting this experience or that,
If we always befriend the same kind of spice
Our meal – and our friends – will seem flat!
