EASTER CHILL

Good Friday was bright, sunny and warm.
Golf courses and playgrounds were busy places.
Beaches were crowded. Churches were not.
Easter was dark, cold, cloudy and wet.
Not at all what we wanted – or expected.
New Easter clothes hung in the closet,
While slacks and sweaters went to church.
The colors of the hidden eggs ran in the rain,
And the Easter bunny stayed home to keep warm!
But –
CHRIST HAS DIED,
because of
-violence, injustice and sunny skies,
-crowded beaches and empty churches
-mindlessness and apathy.
CHRIST IS RISEN,
despite
-bunnies, eggs and brand new clothes,
-grim, cold rain and cloudy skies,
-the boxes of our wants and expectations.
CHRIST WILL COME AGAIN!
Will it be sunny and warm?
Or cold and wet?
