I came one day to the end of the road
Quite near the edge
of my world.
Where to go?
Which way to turn?
What to do?
How to continue?
Long I stood at the barricade,
Surveying the
choices at hand.
Then I turned right,
Walked past the bars
Toward the unknown sea.
There I found a smooth and solid path
Leading toward the
place
Where the sea flows into the sky.
I moved slowly and gently through shell-shaped memories
Of other creatures
who had lived and died
In the depths of
the Sea of the Love of God.
The longer I traveled, the more I knew
That these
boundless depths that comfort me
Lap the shores of every land
And every creature lives and dies
Submerged in its Mystery.
What memories will I leave on the sandy shores of Life,
Where once the
Incarnation walked?
Shapely or broken?
Bright-colored or dull?
Smooth-worn or sharp?
Stinging or stony?
I do not know,
for I still walk a
strange, mysterious Way.
I only know that I must go
Beyond the end of
the road,
And near the edge of the world.
