WHETHER WEATHER

The "whether" of weather is not if ‘twill be.
We know that deep down in our soul.
The "whether" of weather is what will it be;
how to know in advance and control.
Media forecasters try to assist,
Using maps, colored symbols, a chart.
Sometimes their prognostications are right.
Sometimes their predictions aren’t.
But knowing what’s coming is half the "whether";
Half two is ‘How can I cope?’
When it’s cold, build a fire or put on more clothes.
When it storms, just take shelter and hope.
When it’s hot, get a fan or peel off some duds.
Sip a cold drink through a straw.
When it snows, stay in and enjoy the view.
Hibernate until the spring thaw.
In lowlands, folks build houses on stilts,
Raised high above frequent high waters.
Eskimos built their homes of ice
To protect their sons and daughters.
On African plains or Asian jungles dense,
Grass or bamboo is the tool
To make a house that allows the breeze
Help the family inside to keep cool.
Humans have found many creative ways
To cope with weather’s "whether."
Though we gripe and complain, as we shiver or fan,
That our weather really ought to be better.
But the Almighty Weather-Maker peacefully smiles
Through our human attempts to do better.
For the Creator alone – and no one else –
Knows the ‘what’ and ‘whether’ of weather!
