WHAT GOD DID NOT DO

Creator God –
You could have made
an ugly world
for us to live in:
a deafeningly silent,
monotonous gray,
antiseptic scented,
concrete covered environment.
But You didn’t!

You could have built
a uniform world
for us to inhabit:
only flowers of white,
all land animals rhinoceroses,
all insects mosquitoes,
every sea creature a crocodile,
all birds crows,
every tree a weeping willow,
weather always everywhere sunny and warm,
and all people exactly alike.
But You didn’t!

You could have created
an unchanging world
for us to dwell in:
no birth, no growth, no death, no loss,
no hurricanes, earth quakes, tornadoes or volcanoes
no discoveries, inventions, revelations, or break thrus,
no ‘a-ha’ moments or thirsts for wisdom,
no seeking for justice, no yearning for peace.
Only the petrifying, fossilizing, embalming
status quo!
But You didn’t!

Gracious Giver of All Good Gifts,
Did You leave that
ugly, uniform, unchanging world
for humans to construct?
