ON COMING BACK HOME

The map says that I have reached the place that,
for many years,
I knew as home.
But it is different now!
Familiar faces have disappeared,
and unknown blank expressions
try to fill the gaps.
Some old buildings are gone,
And strange new structures have sprung up.
I walk well-known ways
feeling foreign and out of touch.
Where is home?
Have I lost it in my travels?
Has it disappeared
into the mists
of my wandering?

No, home is not lost,
but it has changed.
No longer a place,
home now lives deep inside me
– where God lives,
incarnate –
in the very center of my being.
