CELL TOWER PROTEST

I think that I shall never see
A cell-tower lovely as a tree.
Tho’ metal "limbs" try to disguise
Its frame that stretches toward the skies.
It gives not apples, shade or wood,
But only phone signals - if you’re good
And faithfully pay your monthly bill.
If not, it hides behind a hill
And crackling silence is all you’ve got
Whether the weather is cold or hot.
They’re not fun to climb. No termite likes ‘em.
They never catch fire when lightening strikes ‘em.
They’re not subject to rot; nor do they decay.
When humans die out, will cell towers hold sway?
They’re built by phone company fools
They’re immobile, everywhere, and must follow rules.
They’re built so straight, so tall and skinny.
Do they have natural beauty? No, not any!
They’re eyesores, boring. No one likes them much.
But without them how would we stay in touch?
Nonetheless, though I may sound Neanderthal,
I far prefer trees! How they color in fall;
Their blossoms and leaves, their fruits and nuts,
New seedlings, old shade-friends; no if’s, and’s or but’s!
For trees are lovely, alive and free,
And only God can make a tree.
So remind us, Tree-Maker, we need no ugly tower
To stay in touch with You, your grace, and power!
