TRAVELING THRU HISTORY
The travelin’ lifestyle’s not new
Long before me or you
Early humans moved hither and yon.
With a cart or canoe,
Or a knapsack or two,
They would pack up their things and be gone.
A chariot or horse,
Or two strong feet, of course,
An elephant, or flying rug,
A balloon or a whale,
Train, or ship with a sail
Moved those bit by the traveling bug.
The rays of sunrise
Lured those who were wise
To search out the wealth of the East.
The North Star’s clear light
Guided slaves in their flight
From bondage to freedom and peace.
God’s salvation and grace
Drew St. Pat from his place
To call pagan Celts to Christ’s cross.
And Crusaders did roam
Over lands far from home
To protect sacred relics from loss.
Hannibal crossed the Alps.
Custer’s men lost their scalps
When warring in unknown land.
Drs. Livingston and Schweitzer
Had nary a fright, Sir,
Helping others in Africa’s strand.
The setting sun’s glows
Were compass for those
Who rushed westward searching for gold.
Land offered free
Out in Injun country
Lured many, adventurous and bold.
Throughout time there’ve been many
Who’ve been moved without any
Choice in the matter at all.
Sometimes nations war,
Or disasters roar,
And the helpless must flee it or fall!
Speed increased thru the years:
Bicycles with gears;
And more horses under the hood;
Jet planes that zoom;
Space ships to the moon!
What next? And will it be good?
From birth to death
While you have breath,
Whether single or husband or wife,
Infant, girl or boy,
May you have endless joy
As you travel – on your road thru life.
