Boys enlisted to do a job
no man should ever have to face!
Impressive and handsome
in their brown on green uniforms
and polished boots.
Eager, enthusiastic
and too full of patriotism
to consider that
they might come home
on a stretcher
or in a body-bag.
When will we learn the wisdom
of the child who asked,
"If so many people get hurt in war,
why do we keep playing it?"
