CAB’S EYE VIEW

Here I sit, so high and lifted up,
Watching traffic from the cab of our truck.
Some folks travel in style, dressed to the "nines"
Towing house or car or boat behind.
Others speed on their way with naught save their jeans,
Battered pick-up or 'cycle pulling nothing but dreams.
Speed fuels some journeys. I can see them zip past.
They ignore legal limits to get somewhere fast!
Others dawdle and gawk along their way,
Gathering memories to enjoy on another day.
Eighteen-wheelers, too, share the road
Bearing colorful logos advertising each load.
There’s Fed-Ex and Mayflower and Toys-R-Us,
Kroger and WalMart. Now and then a bus.
A Greyhound or Charter to some far away spot
Full of folks for whom grass greens where ever they’re not!
Trucks filled with livestock, or machines we can’t name,
Cement trucks and log trucks play this traveling game!
Sometimes traffic’s heavy; sometimes none in sight.
Now it flows smooth as honey. Now jammed! What a sight!
Today’s travelers, too, face hold-ups en route
More from barrels of orange than from bandits who shoot!
Some travelers go north and some go south, east or west.
Perusing my map I ask, "Which way is best?"
Is the best way the road that reaches your goal
Whether or not it’s mine?
The way that is safe and lovely for you
Though I follow a different sign?
In the journey of life – like a trip down the road –
Things are kinder, viewed from above.
So, may God bless your journey, and bless ours, too.
With roads that are paved with love.
