ENVIRONMENTAL PENANCE

Grab yourself some trash bags. Find a highway, a beach or a ditch,
And pick up trash that thoughtless folk just heave and toss and pitch:
There are bottles and cans
thrown from cars and vans.
Styro cups and lids
dropped by parents and kids.
Fish line and rope
Left by some careless dope.
A broken lawn chair
Just left to rust there.
A big plastic toy
Lost by some girl or boy.
A light bulb and comb
that will never find home.
Candy wrappers; half a beer.
Why do folks leave them here?
A mountain of junk; a ton of trash to the dumpster, our daily dues.
It’s the penance we pay to atone for the sins of earth’s on-going human abuse!
