In the spring of 1891 they moved to Kansas and located at Sabetha, where they have since lived. In 1868 he was converted and united with the Church of the Brethren, but for sometime after locating in Kansas he stood unidentified with the church. Since which time he has been a member of the Church of his choice, and has endeavored to live the life of a Christian. For the past year and a half he had suffered much, his affliction being cancer of the stomach. During the last few months he had given much thought upon his relation to his God, and the importance of a closer walk with God, he spent much of his time in meditation and prayer and expressed a desire to depart and be at rest. Shortly before his death he said in the presence of his wife and others: 'I see mother, dear Jesus I am coming home'. He retained his consciousness to a very marked degree recognizing his companion and friends to within a few hours of his departure. His suffering was intense but he bore it patiently. "He leaves a wife and two sisters, Mrs. Rachel Fox and Mrs. Sarah Foust both of Pennsylvania and who were unable to come to see their brother because of age and impared [sic] health, also a number of relatives and friends to mourn their loss. His father, mother, three brothers and two sisters having preceded him in death. "He died on Sunday morning at 6:05 o'clock, May 11th at the age of 64 years, 11 months and 23 days.
